Six Word Saturday…

My six words for this Saturday are:

Our town is celebrating sweet onions!

Yes, that is correct.  Every year on Mother’s Day weekend, our little town holds the annual “Sweet Onion Festival”.  This is our 34th one.

All  of things in the world to celebrate and be famous for–and our little town is known for sweet onions…  It’s because of our soil–and the region that we live in.

Have you ever heard of a sweet Vidalia onion?  Sammy Kershaw once made a song called Sweet Vidalia….

Our town isn’t called Vidalia, but we are their neighbor.  We are located in the Vidalia onion region–the region that grows those “sweet” onions.

So, we will begin today with the “sweet onion run”, then we’ll have the “sweet onion parade”, and then the “sweet onion festival”.

An entire day of celebrating the onion…Well, at least it’s only one day.  The city of Vidalia celebrates for three days!

  1. I anxiously await the arrival of the vidalia onion every Spring. I love them. Thye are here on our stores such a short time that I buy them whenever I can. I try to keep them in a cool dark place so they keep longer. One year I still had some in August.
    Happy Mother’s Day.

  2. Hmmmm! Love those vidalia onions! Happy onion day and have a wonderful Mother’s Day!

  3. He! He! Everyone’s gotta be famous for something, right?
