How About A Little Hodgepodge?

Can you believe we’re welcoming in a brand new month already?  Whew, it’s enough to make my head spin!  It’s Wednesday, too, and you know what that means around here…It’s time to join Joyce and friends for a little Hodgepodge!  Here are Joyce’s questions for this week (for which I’m very grateful!  Thanks, Joyce!):

1. I’m joining my daughter1 in the 101 in 1001 challenge. Essentially you create a list of 101 things you hope to do or accomplish in the next 1001 days. What’s one thing you’d put on your list?

I’ve thought about this a lot, and (A) I either lack motivation these days, or (B) I’m a very contented person, because I couldn’t think of a whole lot of things that I wish to accomplish!  The only thing left on my bucket list is to take a cruise or visit the Florida Keys.

2. How many remote controls do you have in your house? What’s one item in your home you wish could be operated by remote control?

I counted, and I believe that we have a total of eight remotes!  Television remotes, speaker remotes, dvd remotes, fireplace remotes, Roku remotes…the list goes on and on.  Ridiculous, isn’t it?  Nobody, especially at our age, should be dealing with eight remotes, so I really can’t think of anything else that I would like to have controlled by a remote!  I just need a key to wind myself up on my slow days!!!

3. What does having it all mean to you? Is it attainable?

To me, “having it all” means having enough money to pay your bills, buy your food and necessities, and have a little money left over for some “extras”.  It means having a roof over your head, especially if it’s yours and it’s paid for!  It means having a reliable method of transportation to get you where you need to go, and last but certainly not least,  it means being surrounded by your loved ones, and having the good health and peace of mind to enjoy all of your blessings.  Yes, I do believe my definition of “having it all” is attainable, for most people.

4. What’s your favorite movie soundtrack?

I really like the soundtrack to “O Brother, Where Art Thou”.  It’s one of my favorite movies, too.  I never grow tired of watching it.

5. Describe the best view you’ve seen from a rooftop.

That’s a tough one, because I don’t like high places!  Our family (all 5 of us)  once climbed the lighthouse at St. Simon’s Island, and the view from there was awesome, except I was too freaked out to enjoy it!

6. What’s your least favorite thing about summer?

Without a doubt, it’s these pesky little gnats!  I though everyone had the pesky little buggers, until we traveled to north Georgia one summer, and discovered some “gnat free territory”.  Trust me, if you don’t know what a gnat is, you are so blessed!

7. Our weekly Hodgepodge falls on the first day of August. In ten words or less sum up your July.

Hot and steamy

Random:

The other day, our granddaughter, Madison, was over for a visit.  Madison and Ed got the hula hoop out, and I discovered that Ed can still hula hoop!  Who knew???

A few days later, Ed sent me this delightful video of a woman hula hooping while trying to drink a glass of wine.  It’s funny, and well worth the time to watch!

  1. My oldest daughter could for sure win a hula hooping contest. She is something to see! We got a universal remote for our main tv and had Geek Squad come out and program it. So worth every single penny! I highly recommend. We bought it at Best Buy.

  2. Hi!
I have a fear of heights too. Loved the video. Have a great day!

  3. I’m surprised she can walk in heels and still keep the hula hoop one! Such a fun video! I’m not a fan of heights either.

  4. O Brother Where Art Thou is really funny! Not a typical George Clooney flick by any stretch!

  5. Oh my … I can relate to the freaking out at the top of the lighthouse on SSI. Been there, done that! It’s the ONE part of our trip to OBX that I’m not looking forward to … I love lighthouses … but not to climb, just to see. DH on the other hand loves to climb them, and I would enjoy the view, I’m sure, if I just weren’t so frightened!

    What is Roku?

And I’m not sure that I could come up with 101 things to do … even if I had 10,001 days instead of 1,001. But I do have a fairly decent, even though a number of them are probably never going to happen (just too pricey). But I can still dream. 😉

  6. We have those darned gnats too- we call them ‘no-seeums’ except that they seem to be bigger and more annoying these days. LOL I am terrified of high places and, for the most part, avoid them like crazy! It’s hot and steamy here too and I’m praying for a long, chilly fall and cold winter!

  7. Interesting talent! I agree the gnats are horrible.

  8. I prefer sipping my wine while sitting quietly by the pond….
I enjoyed your answers…….its just too hot to be motivated to do much of anything…
Gnats? We see a few from time to time when outdoors but its the mosquitoes I could do without.

  9. When Ashley moved in with me a year and a half ago, I KNEW there’d be NO peace if I didn’t get an extra remote for the TV in the living room, so I did. I have mine and he has his. LOL It makes for some dirty looks sometimes, but for the most part, it has kept the peace. 😀
