The Monday Quiz…

Acting Balanced

I know I’m beginning to sound like a broken record, but it’s raining here again. In fact, it’s been raining here for days–weeks even!  Last night, on Facebook, someone asked, “So how many inches of rain have we gotten during the past weeks?”  Another answered, “Twenty-three feet!”  That’s not true, but if certainly feels that way!  At any point in our yard, water will cover your shoes…  Our well water is brown again…  Joy, joy!

Let’s talk about something more fun, shall we?  Something fun, like ice cream! Here’s this week’s Monday Quiz, hosted by Heather @ Acting Balanced :

1. July is National Ice Cream month – are you celebrating?

Perhaps, just a little.  I’m not supposed to eat ice cream because of its sugar, however I found some pretty good ice cream treats that are sweetened with Splenda.  Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

2. What is your favorite rainy day activity?

Reading and napping, and I’ve been doing more than my fair share of both lately!
3. What is the one book from High School that you remember reading most? Why?

I remember trying to read Tess of the D’urbervilles and not understanding very much of the book, at the time.  I don’t remember what I made on the test over the book, but it probably wasn’t a very good grade since I didn’t finish the book!
4. Have you ever visited Charleston, SC?

Yes, we have visited Charleston, SC twice, and I enjoyed being there very much.  I loved visiting the aquarium,  taking a carriage ride through the city, and touring  the retired aircraft carrier, located there. We visited a nearby beach, and did some shopping in the historical district, too.  By the way,  I’d love to go back sometime!

My question for you:

5.  Have you ever taken a carriage ride?  If so, where?

Weekend recap:

Our neighbors, who happen to be our two oldest grown children and their families, left Thursday afternoon, each going on separate mini vacations!  Ed and I had the entire farm to ourselves for most of the weekend.  We sat around and watched it rain!  Fortunately, our children seemed to find a little better weather on vacation, than they left behind at home!

Thank goodness for Saturday’s visit from youngest son, Brad, and his wife, Jennifer!  We had a great time visiting with them.  They ate lunch and supper with us before moving on to spend the night with Jennifer’s grandparents.

Sunday was pretty uneventful.  Just more rain…  If this keeps up, we may need to look into purchasing a small boat!  One family of vacationers has returned.  The other will be returning today.  Monday, around here, is business as usual.  Wet business as usual…

Happy Monday!

  1. I feel your pain on the rain … sounds like our spring. 😦 Hope you get some relief soon!

  2. I have ridden in a carriage several times. Once In Idaho Springs, Colorado to tour the town. This fall I plan to take a carriage ride through Central Park in NYC>

  3. We have had a lot of rain too and even some flooding in parts of the city. We had so much rain that we broke a record for a one day rainfall dating back to 1954.We had a carriage ride in Midland Ontario many years ago. Even though we have visited Charleston we have not ridden in their carriage yet.

  4. Oh I wish you could send the rain my way, this has been a lousy monsoon season and I would love a couple knock down rain storms.

  5. I’ve never had a carriage ride anywhere that I remember.

The tour of the ship in Charleston was awesome. My husband and I went years ago and really enjoyed it.

I’m sorry that you’re getting so much rain. They’ve gotten so much rain back home in South Carolina that most of the collection at the botanical gardens has been destroyed. 😦 Here in this part of Texas, on the other hand, it has been so dry that the corn has been killed again in many of the fields.

    Have a great week!

  6. I just replaced a couple of rotten plants on my patio today. They’re either drowning or boiling-no in between. Stay dry!

  7. Kathy, just keep a close watch that green algae doesn’t start growing on you and Ed! So much rain and dampness everywhere!

  8. I rode a carriage in Disneyland, does that count?

  9. We’ve had over 9 inches in the last couple of weeks…..I have been thinking of making some homemade ice cream. We’ve not done that this year…..Usually, when its dark and rainy, I just read or play computer games, in between household chores……Charleston is my favorite place to visit and we’ve been 4 or 5 times. We always stay in the historic distric. We’ve gone to the beaches and the Aquarium and most of the old homes that you can tour. We have taken a carriage ride. We enjoy walking the streets and taking photos of the houses, churches and gardens. I’m not real fund of the restaurants as most serve too much fried food.
