I’m running a bit late in posting today. For some reason, I just couldn’t get it together last night or this morning, but, of course, I couldn’t let an entire Wednesday go by without joining in “The Hodgepodge”! As always, thanks to Joyce for hosting “The Hodgepodge”!
Here are Joyce’s questions, along with my answers:
1. The USA will mark Columbus Day this year on Monday, October 14th. What’s something you need or want to explore (literally or metaphorically speaking)?
With Ed’s retirement looming over the not-so-distant horizon, I want and need to explore new ways of how to live on a frugal budget. Like everyone else our age, we’re not sure what the future is going to hold for us, but the future isn’t looking very bright, at the moment.
2. The Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz, Ursula from The Little Mermaid, or Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty…who do you most love to hate?

3. Is open-mindedness a virtue?
Open-mindedness can be a virtue, but it can also be a curse, depending on the choices one makes in life.
4. How often do you weigh yourself?
Not very often, perhaps once a month.

Costa Rica was recently named the happiest country in the world on the Happy Planet Index. What’s the happiest country in the world to you, and what makes it so?
I’ve never been to any other countries, so I don’t have a clue, but any place tropical has a tendency to appeal to me!
6. Besides The Bible, what is one book you think should be mandatory reading for high school students? Why?
I, honestly, have no suggestions. I can’t recall a single, solitary book that I was required to read that had any kind of influence on my life. I’m thinking all of today’s students would be a lot better off if they were required to read the Bible– and only the Bible.
7. I went shopping at some nearby outlets last week, and while I was there, I picked up a couple of Christmas gifts. How about you? Have you started your holiday shopping yet?
No, I haven’t started my holiday shopping yet, but I’m getting about ready to!

Most of you know how much I enjoy living ‘in the country’. However, every now and then, living in the country has a downside. Sometimes we share our yards with ‘critters’! Here’s our daughter-in-law, Christina’s, recent Facebook post 🙂
Christina: This ugly thing awaited me last night after I got home from our ladies meeting. And it refused to move as I blew the horn, flashed the lights, revved the motor, and Brett even attempted to scare it away from inside the back door. Needless to say, I drove around front!

Glad you got tojoin in the fun of the Hodgepodge. Yes,living in the country does have its surprises.
I’m with you on your answer to number one but I’m just having the hardest time changing my spending habits…..but I’m working on it!
It would be nice if they had to read the Bible. Is that a opossum? They brought fleas to the backyard of our last home.
It seems like most people picked Ursula. She was down right evil!
I think the witch we picked is indicative of how old we are, and whether we had little girls growing up! LOL The only one I know about is the WW of the West!

Ah – we’re currently trying to practice frugal living, but more to do with two young kids in daycare, mortgage, two aging cars (pls don’t die!) and all the “Carlsberg Years” issues… Good luck with the transition. There are days where I think I’d love to be retired!
I agree with you that kids should be required to read the Bible . And ew, yuck, that beady-eyed critter creeps me out.
Ewwww! I despise possums. There is something so creepy about them. A friend of mine was ‘surprised’ by one when she opened her trash can one evening. I’d have had a heart attack on the spot.
