Wednesday Hodgepodge # 317…

Hello again!  It’s time for The Wednesday Hodgepodge.  As always, thank you to our gracious hostess, Joyce, for keeping this fun meme going.  This is edition 317, and that’s a lot of Hodgepodge!  Here are this week’s questions:

1. Do your actions match your words? Elaborate.

Yes, I think they do, for the most part.  I think everyone, at one time or another, has said they’d do something that just didn’t pan out for some reason, but I always give it my best shot.

2. Sick as a dog, go to the dogs, dog days of summer, dog tired, it’s a dog’s life, every dog has it’s day, can’t teach an old dog new tricks…now doggone it which saying could most recently be applied to your life?

I’m going to say “dog days of summer”!  It’s dreadfully hot and humid here, plus there’s an over-abundance of mosquitoes and gnats making it nearly impossible to spend any time outside.  It’s miserable, and the ground is so wet my shepherd’s hooks keep falling over, leaving my hanging baskets on the ground!

3. Your favorite book featuring a dog in the storyline? What makes it a favorite?

Marley & Me.  Actually, I’m cheating a bit, because I own the book, but haven’t actually read it, yet.  However, I’ve seen the movie twice, and loved it–except for the ending.  It’s a classic tale of a young married couple who adopt a puppy to be their “first child”.

4. What’s something you hope to one day have the confidence to do?

Maybe I’ll fly in a helicopter or an airplane, who knows?  There’s always parasailing, too, but I’ll still die a happy woman if I never do any of these things.

5. August 16th is National Tell a Joke Day. So tell us a joke.

A child psychologist had twin boys—one was an optimist; the other, a pessimist. Just to see what would happen, on Christmas Day he loaded the pessimist’s room with toys and games. In the optimist’s room, he dumped a pile of horse droppings.

That night, the father found the pessimist surrounded by his gifts, crying.

“What’s wrong?” the father asked.

“I have a ton of game manuals to read … I need batteries … and my toys will all eventually get broken!” sobbed the pessimist.

Passing the optimist’s room, the father found him dancing for joy around the pile of manure. “Why are you so happy?” he asked.

The optimist shouted, “There’s got to be a pony in here somewhere!”

Random:

Last week, I forgot to post about our little grandson’s  recent mishap.

Chase fell off the end of a basketball arcade game, and broke his left arm–on the Friday of weekend church camp.  He broke both of the bones in the lower arm.

Thankfully, Chase has had very little pain with his broken arm.  He even managed to attend camp for a few hours, on Saturday, and, thanks to some plastic bags, was even able to get into the pool a little bit.

The following Tuesday, Chase was also able to get a  neon cast, in the colors of his favorite wrestler, The Ultimate Warrior!  Just look at that smile!

Chase even managed to get his awesome cast autographed by one of our area newsmen, Dal Cannady, last Friday, while taking a tour of “The Storm Chaser” (weather lab on wheels).

All’s well that ends well, right?  Five more weeks and Chase’s arm should be as good as new!

  1. Poor Chase. Hope his arm heals quickly!

I’ve never read Marley and Me…maybe I should look it up once my kids go back to school.

  2. What a cute kid Chase is! At least he didn’t break his arm the day school was let out for the summer. Glad he’s having no pain. Those young bodies heal so fast. Your joke is another of my favorites. Thanks for the laugh. Have a great rest of your week.

  3. Wow, your Chase is quite the champ! He’s not going to let a little thing like a broken arm slow him down. 🙂 I do try to always do what I say I am but I’m very good at saying things like I’ll try or if nothing comes up so that people don’t think I just dropped the ball or let them down. My husband is famous for never following through with what he promises so I am very careful with my own words. Not that I don’t fail from time to time. 🙂 Cute joke and I was laughing until I realized I would be more like the pessimist. LOL Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  4. I too am in the dog days for the same reason, although this morning is pleasant enough. Who would have thought you could break a bone playing in the arcades? He does have a beautiful smile with that cast though. I never read Marley and Me, but I did love the movie.
I always liked he joke you shared!

  5. I love the joke! I would be the one looking for the horse.
Marley and Me is wonderful isn’t it?
Tough little guy with such a big grin, and wildly colored cast. Brave too.

  6. Poor chase. The good thing is kids regard a cast as a badge of honor unlike us grownups who see them as a pain in the old patootie. As for Marley and Me, be prepared for uncontrollable fits of laughter.I remember reading it in a coffee shop and being embarrassed that I was laughing out loud.

  7. It has actually been fairly mild here, especially in the mornings. Poor baby with the cast. I hope all heals well!

    Colletta

  8. Poor Chase! Glad he hasn’t had much pain and that smile is adorable!! We’ve had a bit of rain in the past weeks, but evidently not near as much as your. Bugs are a little bad, but not as bad as it could be.

    Loved your pessimist/optimist joke. lol

  9. It’s tough to be in a cast during pool season, but he looks like he’s managing it well. We have very few mosquitos here. I’m not sure if it’s all the birds, how high we sit to the water, or our exterminator : ) Stay cool!

  10. A broken bone seems like a right of passage, doesn’t it? Bless his heart! Marley and Me was my answer too, but I did read the book. 🙂

  11. I loved that film too but yes a real tear jerker. Now that cast looks pretty amazing and I’m sure his arm will be too once it’s off. Children are so resilient and not many get to adults without some mishap or other. Mosquitos are not fun. Hope they go soon.

  12. Thanks for stopping over. I didn’t tell anyone the exact day of my surgery because it was touch and go up until 4 pm the day before! I’m doing pretty good. I was just watching Marley & Me last night. All good dog movies will often touch on the death of the dog. Enjoyed your joke. Sorry about Chase’s arm. Hope it is healing well. Enjoy the rest of your week.

  13. I sympathize with you on the hot & humid weather accompanied by the incessant attack of flying bloodsucking vermin. Sorry to hear bout little Chase and his broken arm. I don’t know of many boys who make to adulthood without suffering at least one broken bone. I did not. My son did not and his son did not. May Chase’s recovery be rapid and complete. All the best to you and Ed.

  14. “The optimist shouted, “There’s got to be a pony in here somewhere!”

    That’s the spirit!

Poor little guy…but, I gotta say, that is a cool cast.
