With only five more days until Christmas, I’d say the holiday season is well upon us! I have a few more things to do, in preparation, but first things first, so let’s answer some more Hodgepodge questions. As always, thanks to our hostess, Joyce, for everything she does!
1. Where have you found unexpected magic or delight this holiday season?
I don’t know that about “unexpected magic or delight”, but I’ve found delight, this Christmas, in the usual things–our rotating Christmas tree, with its beautiful lights and ornaments, a Christmas Parade of lights, the children’s Christmas play at church, just to name a few.
2. What’s your favorite type of holiday gathering? I like the informal kind of gathering, with family/friends, finger foods, and perhaps a fun game or two for fun.
Will you/have you gathered in your favorite way this month? No, we haven’t, but we did gather last Saturday to celebrate a couple of December birthdays.
3. Time has named ‘The Silence Breakers’ (women who came forward with stories of harassment) ‘person of the year’ for 2017. Would you agree? If not, who do you think deserves the title?
The choice of ‘The Silence Breakers’ is okay with me. Perhaps, bringing/keeping the issue of sexual harassment into the spotlight will help this on-going situation for women. Probably not, but I can always hope.
4. How did you spend your time this year? Are you happy about that? Elaborate
I spent more time reading the Bible, and less time on my computer. I spent more time in church, and less time elsewhere. I also began a card ministry (sending cards to sick/bereaved) and, for the first time, in many years, I taught a youth class [at church] on Wednesday evenings. During late spring and early summer we also ‘canned’ fresh vegetables from our garden and made jelly. I used my time in better ways, this year, and, yes, I feel good about that.
5. Bid farewell to 2017 in ten words or less.
Farewell 2017, you came and went much too quickly!

I have some friends coming for a Christmas breakfast this morning, then need to finish up wrapping. My daughter will come out here tonite and I’m sure we’ll bake a little too. I’m glad this year was better for you health wise. Merry Christmas!
I lke your type of holiday gathering. And how nice to look back on this year and see positive changes you made in your life . I hope 2018 is a great year for you. Merry Christmas and God bless you!
I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas and Happy, healthy new year!!
As much work as it is I always find delight in my Christmas decorations just like you do. Way to go on spending more time in the Bible and less on your computer. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
I like the things you take delight in because they are the things that I love, too. It is so magical to have the lights inside the house and I will miss them when we have to put them away. I discovered the strings of tiny led lights and having so much fun placing them around dark corners in the house to light the way. Merry Christmas to you. Congratulations on the way you spent your time. Good job.
Merry Christmas Kathy! I missed seeing your tree this year. It is always so pretty.
Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas! I enjoyed your Hodgepodge!
Seasons Greetings from NH! Kudos for the way that you spent your time this year. I could do with some improvement on that score.
Health wise, the stem cell transplant back in February really set the stage for the rest of the year. There were a lot of health issues related to the transplant.
My beloved SWMBO and I wish you and Ed a very Merry Christmas too.
