A Few More Friday Fragments…

I’m writing this while I wait for my ‘canned’ tomatoes to finish processing.  When the tomatoes are finished, there is a bucket of peas on the floor waiting to be shelled, but who cares?  Let’s blog a bit!

I’m happy to say I’m feeling better than I was the last time I blogged.  Ed and I have had a prosperous week, have canned many vegetables,  but we’ve also taken some time to rest and relax.  (No beach trip, yet, but we’ve enjoyed our front porch a day or two, late in the afternoons.)  Yesterday, we even had a picnic under the carport, while we waited for tomatoes to can in the pressure cooker.

To say the weather has been hot, here, would be an understatement!  It’s almost unbearable, and we still have July and August to go.  What a summer we’re having!  We missed the extremely cold winter that was predicted for 2016, but our summer is more than making up for it.

It’s been so hot, we’ve been running two fans for our outside animals.  One fan is located in the chicken coop, the other is located on the front porch.  Most of our animals are smart enough to take advantage of the extra breeze, even if the breeze does get a little warm by the end of the day!  We always run fans in the summer, but not until July or August, usually.

Gardening is coming to a steady close.  I estimate we’ll be finished within the next two weeks, at the most.  This summer heat is quickly rushing things along.  Ed runs the sprinkler, daily, just to keep the remaining plants from drying up in the extreme heat.  He gets his daily exercise from running back and forth moving the sprinkler every 45 minutes!

I’m not sure what Ed and I will do for ‘excitement’, once the garden is finished, but I’m hoping we’ll make up for some lost time on St. Simon’s Island!  The other day, we took a quick ‘road trip’, on some roads we’d never traveled (going from one Tractor Supply Store to another), and we both really enjoyed the new scenery.  I wouldn’t mind just taking a couple of day trips, somewhere, just to see something different!

Our youngest son, Brad, and his family have finally moved and settled into their new home.  A couple of weeks ago, Ed helped them paint and move a few things, while I played with Evan, so Jennifer could get a few things done.  We haven’t been back since they ‘officially’ got everything moved and settled, but we’ll be visiting, this weekend for a family get together.

Speaking of Brad and Jennifer, they will celebrate their wedding anniversary tomorrow. Originally, they’d talked about getting married on mine and Ed’s anniversary, but couldn’t because the reception hall wasn’t available that day.  So, they settled for exactly one week later, which is always easy for us to remember. Happy anniversary, a little early, you guys!  May you have, at least, as many happy years as Ed and I’ve had (so far)!

I heard this old song, today, and it immediately made me think of each one of our grown children, and the times they are now living through with their families!  All have, or soon will, celebrate anniversaries of 5, 10, and 15 years.  These are busy times, sometimes tough times,  trying to raise family times, often with little time for romance...”but, it’s just another day in paradise” and the years they pass so quickly!

I had to laugh, at the part of this video concerning the washing machine!  Until recently, our oldest son, Brett, and his wife, have been living their own nightmare story concerning a washing machine 🙂

When Brad and Jennifer recently bought their new home, a really nice washer/dryer set came with the house, so they ended up with two sets. The couple, knowing “the washing machine story” of Brett and Christina, mercifully, and generously, donated their extra set to them!  No more “dancing machine” at Brett’s house!  And this washer actually fits in the laundry room space, correctly!  God is so good!

Wednesday Hodgepodge…October 12

Happy Hump Day!  It’s time for the 48th volume of Joyce’s Wednesday Hodgepodge.  The number 48 is significant for another reason today, but I’ll get to that in a moment.  First, let’s jump right into the questions, shall we?

1. Have you ever been ‘asked’ to report for jury duty? Were you chosen to serve? If not, were you happy or disappointed?  So far, I have not been called to report for jury duty.  I didn’t register to vote for many years in order to prevent this from happening.  I know, I know…I should be ashamed.  I finally registered and voted for the first time a couple of years ago.  If I am ever chosen for jury duty, I will suck it up and serve to the best of my ability.  Whether I am happy or disappointed afterward remains to be seen.

2. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being very), how mechanically inclined are you? Give an example to back up your answer.  Um, I would be about a 2.  I can remove and replace screws, change batteries, and replace vacuum cleaner bags.  That’s pretty much the extent of my talents.  I admire mechanically inclined people–especially women.

3. Beets-cabbage-cauliflower-butternut squash….of the four, which is your favorite fall vegetable?  Cabbage, but I hate to smell it cooking!

4. What do you recommend to overcome self-pity? The next time you are feeling sorry for yourself, I recommend taking a look around.  There is always somebody much worse off–and you don’t have to look far to find them either.  Then be thankful for the things that you do have.

5. Do you enjoy classical music?  I can and do listen to classical music at times, but it’s not my first choice in music.

6. October is National Book Month…what’s on your reading list this month?  I’m still trying to finish Jaycee Duggard’s book “Stolen Innocence”.  It’s taken me a while to get back into reading it because my book got wet while I was reading it, and it took me forever to dry the book out.  Next on my list of books to read is “The Help”.

7. What is your idea of ‘cute’?  My idea of cute is… a baby.  Everything about them is cute–and they just can’t help themselves!

Forty-eight years ago my brother married the love of his life.  They’ve been on their honeymoon ever since.  Happy Anniversary, you two.  Here’s a little walk down memory lane for you…Enjoy!

Six Word Saturday…June 19

My six words for this Saturday are:

Had a great wedding anniversary yesterday!

Yesterday, Ed and I began the day of our wedding anniversary  at 6 o’clock in the morning with a kiss.  We exchanged anniversary cards, then began packing the car for our trip to Fernandina Beach, Florida.  Time for a little fun in the sun…

Two of our three grown children, and their “significant others” joined us for the trip since we had an extra bedroom in the condo, and hated to waste it.  Our caravan hit the road around 8:30.  Of course we had to make a stop at Target about mid-way to the beach.  We just can’t travel without making a side shopping trip!  An hour later, we were on the road again, but had to make one more side shopping trip to Wal-mart!

Lunchtime found us eating lunch at WhataBurger.  Hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed the oldies music while we munched on our burgers and fries.  We were groovin’ so much that we hated to leave, but the beach was calling our name…

By 3:oo we were unloaded and enjoying our condo.  The “sun lovers” among us had already hit the beach by then.  After a brief rest, Ed and I hit the beach to soak up some late afternoon sun.  We enjoyed watching our family and others around us doing various activities. Meanwhile we simply relaxed in our reclining bag chairs.  We absolutely love our reclining bag chairs–the best thing that I’ve bought all year!

Later, hubby and I left the family behind, and went to Kentucky Fried Chicken for our traditional anniversary dinner.  We do that every year, because that is where we ate on our wedding night…so many years ago.  We found a little table in the corner, and enjoyed our anniversary meal–just the two of us.  There were only three other customers in the restaurant, so it was very private!  I enjoyed myself just as much as I did 38 years ago…

It’s been a wonderful anniversary day, and I am  looking forward to spending another year with my husband, and best friend, Ed.  He’s a special man and I am so blessed.  It sure doesn’t seem like be have been married for 38 years…Have a great weekend everyone, I wish you were here…
