Feeling Like February And A Little Hodgepodge…

Hello February, and hello Hodgepodge!  It’s time, once again, for a little mid-week fun, thanks to our gracious hostess, Joyce.  Miracles never cease, and, once again, I can finally see the “Linky” for the Hodgepodge, again.  Yay for finally being able to see who’s playing along!  Here are today’s questions:

1. Can you believe it’s the end of January? What was the best day of January 2017 for you, and why?

January came and went in a blur (literally and figuratively) to me.  It seems like I’d just put out  my snowmen decor, and it was already time to pack it all away.  It is frightening how fast time is passing.

There’s no doubt, the best day of January 2017, for us, was January 16, when we got the news that Ed’s biopsy results were negative!  Hallelujah!

2. What sounds make up the background noise in your life?

Our home is quiet, most of the time, so you’ll most likely hear the ticking sounds of our clocks, along with the musical chimes playing [every half hour] on the Seiko clock in the bedroom. Then, of course, there’s our very noisy ice maker in the kitchen.  Outside, during the day, you’ll hear our hens making their ‘chicken noises’ as they make their way around our yard.  (They get particularly noisy around 12 and 4, when they are used to being fed.)  When a hen lays an egg, she will cackle, too).  In the distance, we can usually hear some traffic from the nearby highway, especially the big trucks.

3. I read on the Power of Positivity website a list of ten things to drop from your life right now. They are-

anger outbursts, people who put you down, regret, negative self talk, being a people pleaser, the notion you need to be perfect, the past (but keep the lessons learned!), gossip and judgment, comparing yourself to others, and the word hate (focus on what you love instead)

Which thing on the list do you most need to drop? Are you trying or will you try?

I’m not sure.  This is tough because I don’t really dwell on many of these things, at this point in my life.  I’m going to say. dropping “the word hate and focusing on what I love”.  I’ve disconnected myself from the negative political news on tv and awful rantings on Facebook.

4. What is sacred to you?

God and family.  Without them, nothing else matters.

5. January is National Oatmeal month. Are you a fan, and if so how do you like it?

I’m not a huge fan of oatmeal, but I will eat instant oatmeal if it’s banana nut or cinnamon flavored. I add water, then cook it in the microwave.

6. What feelings does twilight stir up in you?

Because of where we live, nestled next to trees on the western side of us, we don’t really get to experience twilight.  We can’t watch the sun setting in the evenings, like most people can. Therefore, twilight doesn’t really stir any feelings, other than asking myself, “Are the hens closed up for the evening?”  If I have to choose a feeling, I’d say it makes me feel melancholy, because, after all, another day [of living] is over.

7. Something you’re looking forward to next month?

I’m looking forward to getting my eye surgery behind me, celebrating Valentine’s Day, and planting seed cups for the spring garden.

Get well, soon, everybody!

Sickness is all around us.  Three of our four grandchildren are [or have been] sick, along with their parents.  My sister-in-law, in Florida, has been very sick for well over a week, and needed iv fluids, twice, last week.  She’s still recovering.  My great-niece (granddaughter of the sick SIL) is also very sick, and has been admitted to the hospital with a temp of 105.  In addition I’ve been experiencing new eye problems, as I await my surgery date.  Prayers for all those mentioned would sure be appreciated.

A Penny For My Thoughts…

I’m thinking…I wish this weather would get in a stable pattern, and stay there.  One day it’s hot, the next it’s cold.  One day of sun, two days of clouds.  Enough already!

I’m thinking…I’m ready for the “sickness bug” to move on down the road.  For over a month, somebody or another in our little circle of family has been sick!  It’s been stomach aches, ear aches, bronchitis, head colds…you name it!  I’m wondering if any of it is related to the irregular weather patterns?

I’m thinking…March is going to be a busy month for our granddaughter!  She has a parade to be in, a festival to dance at, a wedding to get ready for, and kindergarten registration is coming up!  That’s a lot for a five-year-old to be dealing with–and she’s also been one of the sick ones in our family!

I’m thinking…it won’t be long before I’ll be too old to mop and wax the floors.  I did the kitchen floor the other day, and it almost wore me to a frazzle!  I have two more rooms needing to be done.  Why did I not choose Pergo flooring?

I’m thinking…I sure have a lot of yard work waiting to be done!  I worked out there for two hours yesterday–just picking up fallen limbs and pine cones.  I always think of my blog friend Debby, from over at “Just Breathe”, whenever I pick up  pine cones.  Debby collects “pine cone stuff”.

I’m thinking…I’m excited about planting more seeds in the garden.  Our potatoes haven’t sprouted yet, but all of our fruit trees are already sprouting leaves!  I hope it doesn’t freeze again!

I’m thinking…we may end up with a new dog in the family–at least temporarily.  A golden retriever showed up in our yard yesterday–wearing a shock collar.  He had a friend with him, also wearing a collar.  The friend continued on his travels, but the retriever stayed.  Apparently, someone’s invisible fencing didn’t work.  We’ve put out inquiries, but not response yet.  We don’t live close to anyone, so we have no idea where he came from.  I’m sure someone’s missing him, we just don’t know who.

I’m thinking…I wish I could sleep a little longer than 7 am.  Lately, my body clock seems to be set for a bedtime of midnight, and a rising time of seven o’clock.  Who wants to rise at 7 am if you don’t have to–especially after not going to sleep before 12!   To put it mildly, “Getting older stinks.”

I’m thinking…how sad it is that cute little Davy Jones has died.  I loved watching “The Monkees”!   I still think of Davy looking the way he did back then…I was surprised to see that his hair was no longer black, but he was still cute!  Like I said, “Getting older stinks.”

I’m thinking…I need to get off this computer, and go vacuum the bedrooms.  They’re not going to do it themselves!

So! What’s on your mind today?
