Wednesday Hodgepodge…August 3

1. Share a favorite song lyric.

I’ll share the chorus of  “When I Get Where I’m Going” by Brad Paisley.  I love it so much, I’ve requested that it be played at my memorial service after I die.  Probably not what Joyce had in mind, when she came up with this question…

Yeah when I get where I’m going
There’ll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I’ll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah when I get where I’m going
Don’t cry for me down here…

2. When was the last time someone yelled at you?  I’m happy to say, I really don’t remember the last time that anyone yelled at me.  Yelling usually means arguing, and I try to avoid doing that!

3. Money, fame, happiness…are they mutually exclusive?  I’m not sure…but I don’t think so.  Although there  probably aren’t many people who have all three, I’m sure there are a few–somewhere.  Money and fame usually come at a price.

4. What is your favorite dish to prepare for family and friends that doesn’t require turning on the stove, oven or an outdoor grill?  That greatly limits the choices, Joyce!  My husband and I enjoy a couple of cool summertime favorites this time of the year, like Watergate Salad or Summertime Salad–both made with Cool Whip, crushed pineapple, miniature marshmallows, and various other ingredients like pistachio pudding(Watergate Salad) or orange jello (Summertime Salad).

5. The first week of August is National Simplify Your Life Week. What is one thing you could do this week to simplify your life? Will you do it?  My life is already pretty simple these days, and I’m lovin’ it!  I don’t have any place that I have to be, or any thing that I have to doHow great is that?  About the only think I can think of to further simplify, would be to skip washing my hair, brushing my teeth, or taking a bath!  I don’t think hubby or  I would enjoy the results of that!

6. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being 100% and 1 being not at all) how tuned in are you to your country’s national political scene?  These days, I’m about a 7.  I’m just so sick of it all…the debt, the lying, the bickering…everything is so messed up, and nobody seems willing or able to fix the mess.  What kind of people do we have running our country?  They aren’t showing me very much!  Sometimes I just have to step back and put it out of my mind for a bit.

7. What are your final parting words to the month of July?  Good bye, and good riddance!  Bring on some cooler, fall weather, please.  The high for today is predicted to be over 100 degrees…again!

Random:  There are so many interesting song lyrics out there.  A song is only as good as its writer.  In my opinion, Brad Paisley and Alan Jackson are two of the best singer/song writers out there!  They can write and they can sing!   I love this touching video of “When I Get Where I’m Going”.

  1. Alan Jackson is one of my faves too. It’s fun reading all the different lyrics today. Hope the heat breaks for you….I’m headed south and will be moving boxes. My daughter has already said we’ll need to do most of it at night because its so miserably hot. We are a little cooler here today but then we haven’t been nearly as hot as the south.

  2. I’m SO with you on #7!! 😉

  3. yes the news these days is alot of the same and does get a bit overwhelming at times come see my answers at http://shopannies.blogspot.com

  4. I totally agree with #6. It can be so frustrating. I’m definetly ready for cooler weather, can’t stand to be outside. And if the heat isn’t bad enough the gnats are terrible around here.

  5. That’s a great song. I never thought about it as a funeral song, but it would be good for that. When my sister-in-law’s husband died in his early 40s, leaving tweenage children behind, she chose “I’m Already There” by Lonestar for the funeral. Not a dry eye in the place.

  6. Oh My Goodness! I should have known better than to watch that video while I’m at work! Sitting here at my desk bawling like a baby ~ I was doing pretty good until they started showing pictures of their loved ones.

I’d heard this song – once a long time ago – and I thought the same thing that you’ve said – I want to play this at my funeral – but I didn’t know the name or the singer. Writing this down now so it will be part of my services – it’s important to me that people remember, death is not the end.

  7. My first time hearing this song.
This would make a great funeral song.

  8. I am not a fan of country music but I sure do enjoy looking at it’s male performers. LOL

My mother makes an orange jello salad that is AMAZING!

  9. When my mother passed away (5 years ago Sept) that song was new. My newphew put together a video Memorial of her pitures with that in the background for her Memorial. It was perfect.

On politics I ‘m about a 7 too. On those rare Michigan summer days when the thermometer hit the 90s, Terry would go to the store and come home with bananas and ice cream and toppings to make banana splits for dinner. Not healthy at all, but a fun memory.

  10. Your salad all sound so refreshing!

  11. I love the sound of your simple life and I can’t wait to retire and get there myself! Sounds wonderful!

  12. I love that song, but it always chokes me up a little 😦

  13. I’ve had alot going on this week and thought that today was Wednesday, but it’s actually 12:45 which makes it Thursday, so I guess I’ll try to catch Wednesday Hodgepodge next week. 😦

I love Pam’s comment. I’m not too much into country music either, but I sure like looking at some of it’s male performers…especially Keith Urban. Hubba, hubba !!! 😛

  14. Loved your responses to these questions, especially the video.!

  15. I thought of Strawberry Pretzel salad but then the stove had to be turned on for the jello and the crust. She really didn’t leave much when she cut out the cooking. I should have said, Tomato, Bologna Sandwiches which we enjoy a lot when tomatoes are ripe along with BLTs.
I think the key word in the political question was tuned in…..I don’t watch much news.
Have a great week. I’m praying for a break in temperatures by weeks end.
    Mama Bear
